Mushrooms in a bucket…

As some of you know, my son took an interest in growing (edible) mushrooms earlier this year. We ordered a few mushroom growing kits from North Spore. I was surprised how easy it was and even more surprised how much fun we had. The first couple days we had the kits, nothing happened, but once they started growing, the daily changes were amazing.

Once they were ready to harvest (Golden Oyster, Blue Oyster, and Lion’s Mane), we cut them and cooked them. I couldn’t believe how much better they were than any store bought mushroom I had ever had.

Now we have taken the mycelium and transplanted it into 5 gallon buckets, along with coco-coir and vermiculite as a substrate. The Lion’s Mane is starting to fruit, but the Golden & Blue Oyster mushrooms are not. I am not sure if we did everything the same. For some reason I think the substrate for both oysters is too wet, and that might be causing a problem. However, the Lion’s Mane is rockin’  the bucket ! Hopefully more to come…………..
